Project E.C.O 2024 - Environment Protection - Secondary
Saint Andrew’s Secondary School – Gold

Student-led initiatives included creation of posters to place around the
school, hosting regular morning assembly announcements, organising campaign
such as "Skip the Straw Day", collaborating with canteen vendors to reduce
plastic waste by not providing straws and to further raise awareness about
the challenges of recycling due to contamination.

Springfield Secondary School – Silver
Springfield Secondary School launched a year-long sustainability initiative from January to November 2024, focusing on reducing food waste and improving energy efficiency, aligned with the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Activities included recycling competitions and the installation of ECO-digesters to process food waste. The Clean Plate initiative encouraged mindful consumption to reduce food waste.

Sec 2 ALP students participated in a hands-on session on effective composting methods.
The school assessed its recycling infrastructure, conducted sustainability surveys, and organised events like Earth Hour to raise climate awareness. A key part of the initiative was community involvement and outreach, where Student Environment Ambassadors participated in the Tampines 4Rs Exhibition at Our Tampines Hub, promoting composting and sustainable practices. Workshops on sustainability and composting were also held for Northoaks Primary School Student Leaders/Key Personnels.

Naval Base Secondary School – Bronze
The project aimed to raise awareness about reducing textile and paper
waste in the school and local community through hands-on upcycling activities.
Eco Ambassadors repurposed old textiles into useful items, i.e tote bags, while Secondary 3 Eco Board Councillors taught 50 kindergarten students, staff, and parents from PCF Sparkletots how to upcycle clothes into bracelets during their Environment Fest.
Students also processed recycled paper into eco-friendly Teacher’s Day gifts, promoting sustainability. The project successfully engaged participants in creative upcycling, fostering environmental stewardship and awareness about the impact of waste.

Collaboration with partners to collect recyclables from the community.

Unwanted papers are collected from students, staff and the community to be made into recycled paper as part of the annual upcycling gift for staff during Teachers’ Day.
The initiatives have encouraged students to embrace sustainable fashion and recycling practices, extending its impact to the wider community. There are plans to instil sustainable practices through continued collaboration with PCF Sparkletots to organise upcycling workshops for future events.
